Safety Maybe phrase - "Children dont try to repeat it at home" sounds fun, but there is truth in it. While fireworks are indeed very fun to have around to celebrate, they can also be very dangerous. Accidents are usually due to careless negligence or ignorance. However, it is very easy to avoid disaster if you follow a few basic tips. First off, fireworks should be handled with respect, due to their ability to cause serious injury and property damage. To avoid these, you should follow the following list of dos and don'ts: DOs: 1. Keep your fireworks in a dry, cool place out of reach of children until ready to be used. 2. Keep all pets indoors to keep them from being startled by the loud noise and lights. 3. Always have a bucket of water or hose handy in case of emergency. DONTs: 1. Never allow small children to come near fireworks. 2. Never try to modify fireworks or make your own. 3. Never try to relight a "dud" explosive that didn't go off at first. These are sure simple rules but always there is someone who'll not follow them. And here are some rules for emergency cases: -Cool the burn or scald with cold water for at least 10 minutes. -Cut around material sticking to the skin - don't pull it off. -Don't touch the burn or burst any blisters. -Cover the burn with clean, non-fluffy material - cling film is ideal - to prevent infection. -If clothing catches fire, get the person to stop, drop to the floor and roll them in heavy material like a curtain. -Get advice from your doctor or accident and emergency department at your local hospital.
